Double Page Spread Magazine Research:

1. A large image- used to attract the reader to buy the magazine. The celebrity in this magazine is looking directly at the audience to encourage the reader to buy the magazine.
2. A quote- A quote from the interview is sometimes is the headline. Sometimes controversial or shocking to get the reader to red the article.
3. The text is usually 11pt and the font is aerial.
4. The main image on the double page spread is usually on the left however some magazines go against the codes and conventions and put it on the right side.Sometimes the image bleeds over the whole page.The picture on the double page spread always relates to the article and the artist and are ascetically pleasing.
5.The double page spread also includes by-lines, which are put under the images to give credit to the photographer and writer. The headline that is used for the double page spread are always short, this is so it makes the reader intrigued.
6. The color scheme is the same throughout the spread. It's simple so that it doesn't overpower the article.

Researching Magazines

In my 6th Post I am researching Magazine Covers.

I have learned that image based magazines are the most common approach to magazine cover designs. You can see the approach in celebrity magazines, fashion magazines, and men's magazines. The person featured on the cover normally sells the magazine.

I have also learned of illustration based cover magazine which is another creative way to do a magazine. This method was used mainly in the mid 1930s and is rarely used today.

Typed base magazines which is a rare approach. It is used more often then illustrated covers and it tends to be striking and shocking.

Researching Magazines

In my 5th blog post I am researching the layout of a Magazine interior. The interior means the content that the people actually came to read.
You can break it up to many different pieces.

10 Most Important Elements of Magazine Designing

Headline- Is the title. It's the biggest and it should be compelling enough to want to make the reader analyze the article.
Introductory Paragraph- It introduces the reader about the topic and sets the tone of the reader about the topic they are reading.
Body Paragraph- Is the most detailed part of the topic and keeps the reader engaged to the story of the article.
Bylines- Is the name of the person or team who worked on this article.
Sub-headline/Subhead- Breaks the article into sections.
Pull Quotes- Quotes adds more evidence to the article and makes it more believable. Quotes should have different font from the rest of the paragraph.
Captions for Images- Should describe the image that is used in the article.
Section Head/Running Head- Placed at the top of every page of the magazine and helps readers guide through the magazine.
Folio- it's a way of arranging the sheets of paper in your magazine by folding them a certain way.
Box Copy/ Panel- contains important facts related to the topic of the article that the reader is reading.

Researching Magazines

For my second post I am researching the many genres of magazines to use as inspiration for my magazine.
The magazines I became the most interested in were:

Literary Magazines: is devoted to literature it usually publishes short stories,poetry, essays, literary criticism, book reviews, biographical profiles of authors, interviews and any content related to literature.

Technical Magazines: This genre covers anything dealing with technology. It deals with how innovations change society or simply the updates of current technology.

Film Magazines: This genre covers anything film related. Meaning recent popular movies that have caught the viewers eye. The example below is a popular film called John Wick 3 that blew the audience away upon release.

Music Magazine: This genre is mainly focusing on music. It focuses on the different type of music examples being pop,rock,hip-hop, jazz and more. This type of magazine can appeal to a large audience.
